Introducing Qualcomm’s Next-Generation Modem Chips: Empowering IoT and Satellite Connectivity

The 9205S chip, which has already hit the market, is being marketed as a solution that seamlessly connects IoT devices to both cellular and satellite networks. This integration enables precise positioning data through the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). Consequently, the chip has diverse applications across several industries, including tracking shipping containers, monitoring agricultural equipment and livestock, and managing global fleets and freight in supply chain operations. On the other hand, the 212S chip, slated for release later this year, has been designed for long-distance, fixed-location applications. According to Qualcomm, this chip excels in optimizing battery usage to extend the lifespan of devices. It excels at tasks like gathering telemetry data from water and fuel tanks, meters, and other essential infrastructure equipment. Furthermore, it is well-suited for public grid monitoring and early fire detection reporting, among other use cases.

Both chips take advantage of the Qualcomm Aware platform, enabling real-time asset tracking and device management services, specifically designed for remote areas. The Qualcomm Aware platform collaborates with NTN service provider Skylo to deliver seamless integration for these chips, resulting in enhanced functionality and improved performance.

With the launch of the 212S and 9205S modem chips, Qualcomm is demonstrating its commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the IoT and satellite industries. These chips not only offer advanced connectivity options but also incorporate power-efficient features and compliance with industry standards. As the IoT and satellite sectors continue to expand, Qualcomm’s latest offerings are poised to make a significant impact by enabling efficient and reliable communication for a wide range of applications across various industries.
